During his residency at North Shore University Hospital (Cornell), Dr. Aker served a two year term as Chief Resident and remained as Director of the hospital’s residency program. In his desire to maintain the highest possible standards as a surgeon, he became a charter member of American College of Eye Surgeons and has served as President of both the College as well as its certifying board, the American Board of Eye Surgery. He also served as Chief Medical Editor of Ophthalmology Management medical journal.
Dr. Aker is co-founder and Medical Director of the Aker Kasten Eye Center.
At various times he has participated in FDA studies and has lectured extensively throughout the years at meetings such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgery and the American College of Eye Surgeons. Dr. Aker has also lectured nationally and internationally on functional vision as it pertains to intraocular lenses.
He has authored many articles and book chapters on laser refractive
surgery, cataract surgery and advanced technology IOLs, including the Crystalens accommodating IOLs.
